About
About Sokka: Sokka is one of the five central (human) characters in the Nickelodeon animated series, Avatar: The Last Airbender. Sokka is a somewhat clumsy teenage boy, a member of the Water Tribe of the South Pole. His father and the other men of the village left to fight against the Fire Nation over two years ago, just before Sokka's 14th birthday, and Sokka has been alone with the women and children ever since. Sokka feels it is his responsibility, as the only "man" of the tribe, to become a strong warrior to protect his people
and, more importantly, his younger sister, Katara. While on a fishing trip with Katara, the two unwittingly discovered and released Aang the Avatar, a powerful being who can control all the elements, who had been trapped inside an iceburg for the past 100 years. After much bickering and a nearly disastrous attack on the South Pole by Prince Zuko of the Fire Nation, Sokka and Katara decided to accompany Aang on a quest to the North Pole so that Aang and Katara can learn to master the art of Waterbending.
Sokka's Personality: Sokka is more than slightly neurotic and, due to his sister's and friend's (and just about everyone else's) flippant attitudes towards him, he has a bit of an inferiority complex. Sokka believes strongly in tradition, realism, and the power of one's instincts. He is also very stubborn and has a deep-rooted hatred for Firebenders because they killed his mother and drove his father to going to war. Before his encounter with the Women Warriors of Kyoshi, Sokka was a bit sexist and held to traditional views that men were warriors and women cooked and sewed; after meeting Suki, however, his attitude changed. Sokka also tends to think with his stomach and will do just about anything for food.
Despite his obvious flaws, however, Sokka is very loyal and cares deeply for his sister and his friends. Sokka still has a lot of growing up to do though.
