Relationship - Season 1

In the first part of the series, Mara and Jerome seem to be at odds with each other. Jerome catches Mara cheating on a French test for Mick, which he proceeds to blackmail her for. Jerome's antagonism towards her, however, soon seems to take on a deeper meaning as his crush on her begins to surface. Although at first Jerome seems uninterested in pursuing the crush because of Mara's besottedness with Mick, when Mick is away from school for sports camp tryouts, Jerome's feelings become more apparent. He offers to keep Mara company while Mick is gone, leading his friend Alfie to pick up on Jerome's crush, although Jerome denies it: "What, Mara? You've got to be joking! No, she's the ice queen! Icy queen of ice!"

Despite his protests, Mara and Jerome begin to spend almost all their time together while Mick is gone. Jerome opens up to her about his troubled childhood, and Mara begins to see that there's more to Jerome the joker than meets the eye. When elections for school representative are announced, Jerome nominates Mara for the position and offers to be her campaign manager. Eventually, he asks her out on a date, which she turns down, citing her confused feelings over Mick. Jerome tries to persuade her to forget about Mick, but just when she seems to be warming up to him, Mick returns from his tryouts in the US and asks Mara to be his girlfriend, which she quickly accepts.

Jerome continues to try to win over Mara's affections, but after being rebuffed several times, he angrily tells Mara that he no longer wants to manage her campaign, and moves over to Amber's campaign. However, when he catches Mick rigging the election so Mara will win, Jerome seizes the opportunity to inform Mara of her boyfriend's dishonesty. When Mick confesses, Mara breaks up with him, explaining that they bring out the worst in each other. Jerome is clearly excited by this turn of events, seeing the opportunity to make a play for Mara once again. We'll just have to see what Jerome chooses to do about the situation...
