Poirot is one of my favorite TV series. I have always loved murder mystery series (some of my life-long favorites are Murder She Wrote and Midsomer Murders). What makes the TV series Poirot so special to me, what makes it stand out more than the other adaptations of Hercule Poirot, is the relationship of the great detective and his comrades Hastings, Japp, and Miss Lemon. I enjoy every episode, but I do have to say, a wave of excitement breaks over me when I see Hugh Fraser, Philip Jackson, AND Pauline Moran's names listed after the credits roll; I know I will enjoy it because all three of my favorites are in it! Each of these characters is so endearing, but the thing I love the most is watching how they all interact with each other. All four of them have a special relationship with each of the other. Hastings and Japp are comrades in suffering from Poirot's high opinion of himself; meanwhile, Miss Lemon is several times smarter than all of them save Poirot, and it is hilarious to see her talking to Hastings, who is inevitably about 3 steps behind everyone else mentally. The way they characterized everyone for the series (particularly Miss Lemon's transformation from a no-nonsense robot into a fanciful, eccentric and stylish lady) is just so appealing! That's why I just had to make a fanlisting for the relationship of the four. It just doesn't feel right with any of them excluded! |
